There is a quite famous rodeo event known as team roping that involves a steer and two mounted riders. This horse riding activity was begun by cowboys and its main objective is to handle a huge animal such as a bull that can not be captured by one individual. Over the years, people from different countries and states adopted this endeavor as a sport. One horse acts as a header while the other one acts as a heeler. Another device used is the horn wrap and it is used to prevent a rope that is tied on a horn from breaking. Horn wraps are also essential because they reduce the frictional force between the rope and the horns on a steer animal.

Other gadgets that are used by horse riders are roping gloves and bell boots. Roping gloves are basically worn by the riders on the hands to minimize rope burns. Bell boots on the other hand are placed on the hooves of the horses to protect them against injuries. Cowboys should always wear protective gears when handling horses and bulls for safety.

This activity basically comprises of two horse riders. One of them is known as the header while the other is known as the heeler. Headers are supposed to occupy the left side while heelers should occupy the right side. They should occupy opposite positions for them to capture the steer animal easily. Steer animals are introduced into the field one after the other depending on the speed of the headers and heelers.

There are certain rules and regulations that govern this sporting activity. For example, heelers should capture the two legs of a steer animal. Headers on the other hand should focus on capturing the neck and horns of the bull. Heelers and headers are therefore required to follow them to avoid facing penalties. Furthermore, penalties range from five to ten seconds depending on the offense that has been committed by a horse rider.

Ropes that are utilized during this sporting endeavor are made of poly fibers and nylon. This ensures that a rope is stiff thus suitable for use when handling strong animals such as horses and bulls. The ropes are also manufactured based on different grades. Healers are required to use harder ropes because their role is to capture the legs of the steers.
